DISCOVER / Day Trips
Hurricane Valley is in the center of some of the most scenic roadways in the world. Scenic drives
abound. Highway 9 connects Hurricane to Zion National Park, and is 20 miles of gently sweeping
roadway as it follows the Virgin River past painted mesas and winds its way to Springdale and Zion
National Park. Stay on it through the park and drive through a mile long tunnel carved through the
Navajo Sandstone ramparts, and emerge on the other side in another world of sculpted sandstone
ranging in hues from white to red, big horn sheep, and the endangered California Condor. From here,
you can connect with the 89 and travel up to Bryce National Park or down to Kanab. Other Scenic Drives
include Kolob Terrace Road, Hwy 59 to the Grand Canyon National Park, and Highway 18 in St George
which will take you passed Tuacahn Amphitheater, Snow Canyon State Park, Ancient cinder cones and
lava flows, and to the alpine town of Pine Valley, where an old Mormon church was built like an upside
down ship by a shipbuilder using no nails.
